Sunshine (2007) Review

Sunshine (2007) Review

"So, if you wake up one morning and it's a particularly beautiful day, you'll know we made it."

Always fun to watch an older movie with a big cast of actors who weren't quite famous, yet. Michelle Yeoh needed no introduction then or now, but Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, Cliff Curtis and Mark Strong were mostly supporting players at the time (at least in America).

The EVA spacesuit is instantly unforgettable prop design. The distress signal evokes a wounded god. “Adagio in D minor” resonates enough to get licensed into another film or TV property on a yearly basis. By both eye and ear, this is a film that sticks.

The internet consensus on the film’s baffling third act is correct. A turn that Alien pulls off, Sunshine does not. It frankly tries to ruin the preceding film, but, thankfully, can’t pull that off either.
