The Battle of Algiers (1966) Review

"Give us your bombers, and you can have our baskets."

A film as necessary when I first watched it in 2011 as it was in 1966 and as unfortunately as necessary in 2024 as it was in 2011.

The police bomb an Algerian apartment block, bodies are carried from the rubble, revenge is plotted, military checkpoints traversed, the retaliatory bombing of French cafes, to more bodies being carried from the rubble. Drums pound in and out as the film rolls on, documentary style.
